Choosing an inspector

An inspection company should be chosen with diligence and care.  The following minimum criteria should be met:

The inspector should have a BS in civil engineering and at least 10 years of experience in the bleacher-grandstand industry.  This experience should include:

  • the installation of grandstands/bleachers
  • the design of grandstands/bleachers
  • construction experience as a general contractor

In the event that litigation occurs, the inspector should be able to provide expert testimony with regard to your maintenance history and improvements that have been made to your structure, per all code requirements.

Your inspection company should NOT be the organization that remedies any issues. However, your inspection company should be able to provide the names of companies that can rectify any issues or make recommendations to your maintenance staff on corrective action.

Lastly, while there is a cost associated with inspections, charges should be reasonable in relation to complexity and scope of work.
